MY LITTLE ISLAND CURRICULUM

UNIT: The Weather & Unit Reviews

OBJECTIVES:
  1. To practice speaking and to review the structures through book activities
  2. To make a complete review of all the units.
  3. To get ready for the year end show drama and songs
  4. To develop speaking skills through playtime activities
  5. To develop listening skills through storytime activities
  6. To improve language comprehension through movie time.

TARGET VOCABULARY AND STRUCTURES:
  • Review of the Weather unit
How is the weather? It’s (sunny).

  • Review of Unit 4and Unit 5
Is it (green)? Yes, it is / No, it isn’t.
Where is (chair)? It’s in the (bedroom).

PLAYTIME SPEAKING ACTIVITY:
Language development is best acquired through daily routines and activities. For the playtime speaking activity every student chooses a toy and s/he asks and answers questions about the toy in front of the classroom. Every student has a chance to experience an English dialogue with the teacher.

STORY TIME:
Teacher reads the story “Walking through the Jungle” and asks students some questions while reading.

BOOK ACTIVITY:
Students review the previous units’ vocabulary and structures through pages 90 and 91.

DRAMA ACTIVITY
  • The drama of the year end show was practiced.

GAMES:
  1. Teacher places the flashcards on the board and numbers the cards. Then she chooses a number and students say the object corresponding to that number.
  2. Students close their eyes and teacher turns one or two cards back. After that, students open their eyes and try to guess the closed cards.
  3. Yes/No Game: Teacher takes one flashcard and puts it on her head without looking at the card. Then she guesses the word. If she is correct, students respond as “Yes”, and if she is wrong students say “No

SONGS:
  • Songs we will sing in the year-end show were repeated.

MOVIE TIME
Students watch a cartoon in English. This week we watched some Pocoyo episodes in English.

·         “A funny day” story was dramatized by students. They repeated the lines of the characters and acted the story out.
·         “Playtime” activity started. During this activity students pick their favorite toys from the classroom, they bring it to teacher and they talk about the toy in English by using the language structures of the year. This week “I have got…..” and “Do you like……?” structures were reviewed.
·         The drama of the year end show was practiced.

GAMES:
·         Teacher plays the Game CD of our book and students play the games of the new “The Weather” unit as a warm up.
·         The online games to review and learn vocabulary were played on Smart Board.

·         Teacher brings the new unit vocabulary flashcards. She puts the cards on the floor face down and asks the students to find the cards of the sentences she mentions.
·         Teacher selects a student to be her assistant. While teacher shows one flashcard and asks the corresponding sentence, the assistant listens and gives a “thumbs up” if his/her friend’s sentence is correct.  

LISTENING:
Students watched the videos of the “My first English Adventure 2” CD.

SONGS:
